Public Awareness Campaign

A public awareness campaign was conducted highlighting the importance of Neural Tube Defects.
In this event attended by over 100 lady members of the Khalij Friends, Dr. Maryam Matar, Chairperson of UAE GDA gave a lecture on the importance of folic acid supplementation.

Sheikha Fathima bin Hasher al Maktoum, Head of Sharjah Women’s Business Council, Ms. Ayesha from the Sharjah Women’s Business Council, Dr. Zulekha Daud from Zulekha Hospital and Ms. Sangeetha Varma, wife of Honourable Consul General of India graced the occasion.

Ms. Jehanara welcomed all the delegates and this was followed by a presentation from Neopharma, introducing the purpose of the campaign and the important joint initiative between UAE GDA and Neopharma.  As a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Neopharma has developed the formulation of Folic Acid and Vitamin B12 with the name – Manal.

Under the visionary leadership of Dr. B R Shetty, the role of Neopharma in this campaign reflects the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility – contributing positively to the awareness of Neural tube defects and folic acid supplementation at a national level.

Dr. Maryam Matar, Chairperson of the UAE GDA made a lucid presentation on the importance of folic acid supplementation during the periconceptional period and how a simple supplementation of folic acid can help prevent a socio-economic problem.  Dr. Maryam Matar presented the scientific importance of the campaign in an easy to understand format for lay persons.
